To my beautiful community. 💚 I wanted to take a moment to let you know that this account will no longer be active. Over the past few years it’s been an amazing journey connecting with all of you, sharing my passion, and building this community together. I’ve learnt so much from other likeminded people and it’s been a really tough decision for me (hence the radio silence while I was considering my options). However, recent changes to how Meta are handling user data have made me reconsider my presence on these platforms. Meta is now using all social activity, including what we post (including our likeness, voice, ideas etc), like, and comment on, as well as our connections to train its AI tools. Don’t get me wrong, I think AI has its place and it’s fascinating to see some of the developments. However, in Australia the privacy laws are lacking (unlike in Europe and some parts of the US), there’s no option to opt out of this data collection, and that’s something I’m not comfortable with. How would you feel if you saw an AI generated ad served to you in the near future featuring my face/voice to sell you an unethical or unsustainable gardening related product or service, because that is one of the possibilities this data will be used for. I always knew as a social media user and creator I am the product that benefits the likes of Meta and co. But I am drawing the line here. Your privacy and mine matter, and I believe in having more control over how our personal information is used.
In the future I might be exploring other platforms where our data is treated with the respect it deserves. In the meantime, thank you so much for your support and understanding.
Glorious autumn garden 🍂☀️🐓 only a few days left and we are heading into winter but there’s plenty of produce that will be ready for harvesting. I am looking forward to a little rest while the garden slows down.
If I could only grow one winter crop it would be broccoli. 🥦 In our climate it’s super easy to grow and there’s just nothing that beats the flavour of homegrown broccoli. What’s your must-have winter veg?
No better way to spend Mother’s Day than visiting Crawleighwood Garden, a private estate south of Hobart, on the most glorious sunny, autumn day. I came home with lots of ideas and a commitment to plant deciduous trees like Nyssa Sinensis, which took my breath away with its vibrant red foliage. 🍁🍄🍂
T’is the season of fungi 🍄is there anything more magical than seeing colourful fungi (and slime moulds) pop up everywhere in autumn? I get so excited seeing them as it means my soil is doing fabulous things. Fungi can help break down all kinds of organic matter and balance out potential toxins too. I noticed a massive increase in fungi activity since I started adding wood chip mulch, which many fungi love to feast on.
One of the highlights of the autumn season is our annual walnut picking day at @coaldalewalnuts . So much fun trying to find the nuts on the trees (or the ground) and guaranteed fresher than store bought. We did get a bit excited this year and drove home with over 13kg of nuts 🙈
Autumn mornings in the garden. 🍁🌈🌸The dahlias are having their grand finale, the fruit trees are dropping their leaves and short (and much needed!) rain showers are bringing out the most glorious rainbows.
You could hear nature sigh with relief today as we finally got some decent rain. After months of record breaking dry conditions here in our part of the world, this is a very welcome change. 25mm in the gauges and counting…
As the summer wraps up in my garden, here are 5 of my top performers in the flower garden that are super easy to grow! All of these were started from seed.
I don’t know if anyone still needs convincing but here you go 💁🏻♀️ Samoan Prince sure is special and just one of many stunning varieties in the dahlia family. Despite all the information about dahlias, they are actually really easy to grow! But beware, once you start you might not be able to stop…
