Today is International Day of the Girl
If you’re not familiar, Day of the Girl is about celebrating the amazing things girls can achieve when there’s nothing holding them back.
It’s also a day that acknowledges girls do still face setbacks, especially those living through harsh conditions like conflict or disaster. That’s why I’m supporting Plan International’s Giving Day today.
Plan is raising funds to empower girls to fight for their right to safety and equality.
Plan raised $100,000 in 24hrs on last year’s Giving Day, so let’s come together and smash that goal again this year to help girls forge their own destinies and achieve their dreams.

Today on International Day of the Girl, girls’ rights charity @plan_australia has teamed up with streaming service @stanaustralia , and invited myself, a proud Plan ambassador, and a group of 15 incredible young women to curate for you a list of inspiring films and series that champion gender equality, smash gender stereotypes and promote strong women characters.
Working in the film industry, I am all too aware of how influential movies and media can be. Although there has been progress, and there are a growing number of exciting filmmakers making more positive and authentic depictions of women and girls in all their diversities, women are not portrayed enough, and when they are they’re far too often sexualised. This can have a real impact on girls aspirations.
As one of the amazing young women, Aish, who contributed to this list said: ‘visibility means possibility’
These 25 movies and programs show that when they’re not held back, girls are capable of extraordinary things.
So dive in, check out the list on Stan, and join Plan’s movement.

"I continue to believe in the power and resilience of girls. They are extraordinary—strong, determined, and ready to lead. Girls are agents of change, standing up for their rights and shaping their futures." @PhoebeJTonkin writes about her work with @Plan_Australia for Vogue in an op-ed ahead of International Girls Day.
